Know exactly what you pay
The service charge is 2% of what you buy, and never more than ₦100. VAT is 7.5% of the service charge only, not of your electricity. The amount you choose for electricity goes to your meter in full.

How many units you get depends on the price per unit set by the company that runs your mini-grid. You can buy between ₦500 and ₦100,000 at a time.

Open RanaWallet by dialling the short code, sending a text message, using the app, or visiting app.ranawallet.com. Put money in your wallet, then type the number written on your meter. We check that the meter is real, show you the full price, and once you agree we send your token to you in the app and by text message.
Yes. The app is free, there is no monthly fee and no fee to join. Each time you buy power we add a service charge of 2%, never more than ₦100, plus 7.5% VAT on that charge. There are no other charges.
No. The charge is added on top of what you buy. If you buy ₦5,000 of electricity, the full ₦5,000 goes to your meter, and you pay ₦5,107.50 in total.
That depends on the price per unit set by the company that runs your mini-grid. RanaWallet does not set or change the price of electricity.
You can buy as little as ₦500 and as much as ₦100,000 at a time. For larger amounts or a larger wallet balance, we may need to confirm who you are, because Nigerian rules for payment wallets require it.
Prepaid meters on the mini-grids connected to RanaWallet. We are adding communities one at a time, together with the companies that run each mini-grid. RanaWallet does not sell electricity for national-grid meters, such as those from DisCos.
Yes. Type their meter number instead of yours and pay from your own wallet. This is how a family member or neighbour without a bank account can still get power: they give you the cash, and you buy the power for their meter.
By bank transfer or with a bank card, on the secure page of our payment partner. You type your card details on their page, so RanaWallet never sees or stores them. We do not charge you anything to put money in your wallet.
If the power company confirms the purchase failed, everything you paid, including the service charge, goes back into your wallet. Sometimes the result is not clear straight away, for example when the network drops. Then your purchase shows as pending while we check with the power company. We never keep your money for power you did not get.
Yes. The short code (USSD) and text messages (SMS) need no internet at all. In the app, if you buy power with no signal, the purchase is saved on your phone and sent as soon as the signal comes back. You are never charged twice for the same purchase.
